Ms. Maki is a partner specialising in the field of IP, restructuring, and corporate affairs.
In the field of IP, she has a wealth of experience in contentious matters in relation to IP, including patents, trademarks, and the Unfair Competition Prevention Act. She also advises on non-contentious matters, such as drafting agreements for licenses and joint research and development, and setting up internal rules for IP management including the treatment of employee inventions. She gained experience during secondment to the legal department of a major record company in Japan, which has afforded her particularly strong knowledge in the content business sector, such as music, brands, designs and the gaming industry.
In the field of restructuring, she has worked on major restructuring cases such as the court proceedings of Takata and Japan Airlines, and has also served as a trustee in many bankruptcy cases.
In the field of corporate affairs, she advises on projects including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and security arrangements, as well as clients’ day-to-day legal issues.
In many cases she handles, Ms. Maki works intensively on international and cross-border matters by taking advantage of her good English skills.
